artist statement - Elissa Gore
Oil and water have found the perfect mix in the transcendent realism of
Elissa Gore’s landscapes. These works elicit a peaceful reaction, not only
because they draw us in to a serene composition, but also from the
pleasing combination of oil pastel on watercolor. Although derived from
specific rural locations, her paintings strive to articulate an archetypal landscape. They dare to express the view that art can be beautiful, and
invite us in to take a respite from the hustle and bustle of our days.
Elissa believes that “the art of painting is a form of meditation” which should
be shared with the viewer. Her work is more than decorative, it allows us
to participate in and be moved by the expanse of nature.
