artist statement - Nancy Scheinman
As a visual storyteller, I weave together personal narratives and internalized landscapes. My images deal with the myth of a purer past within the framework a modernist grid. The geometric arrangement of the compositional elements of my work is not unlike quilts women have pieced together as part of a universal spiritual and domestic experience. Like fabric, sheets of copper, antique tin and bronze wire cloth are cut and layered with paint, photographic imagery and pattern. They are collaged together with nails and tacks literally connect the past with the present through contemporary process and aged materials. Mystery and secrets in multiple layers are slowly revealed to the viewer.
